Wied Fulija in Żurrieq will be rehabilitated into natural parkland. The project on the dilapidated rubbish site which covers 95,000 square metres had started in March and will be ready by December 2020.
This was announced by Environment Minister Josè Herrera during a site visit. He added that 45,000 mature trees and indigenous shrubs will be planted in the rehabilitated area. Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Aaron Farrugia, who was also visiting the site, said that the €4 million project is being financed by the EU Cohesion Fund. Farrugia added that the project will not only protect the surrounding environment but will be also create an area for public use, improving their life quality.
