Watch: “I took up journalists’ protection with Ursula von der Leyen” – Casa

Nationalist Party (PN) European Parliamentary Member (MEP) David Casa stated that he’s taken up the issue of journalists’ protection in the European Union with Ursula von der Leyen. This week, von der Leyen has been confirmed as the European Commission president.

Prior to Tuesday’s vote, Casa had told Newsbook.com.mt the he had met von der Leyen twice, alongside PN MEP Roberta Metsola.

Casa stated that there are a number of problems Europe must face, including social and economic worries. Social problems, according to Casa, are linked to economic troubles due to a flouting of the rule of law. He added that the flouting of the rule of law was not a problem faced only by Malta.

Another problem that must be faced is that of journalists’ protection, as it is condemnable that those who investigate corruption are killed. Casa pointed out that this was the case with Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder in 2017.
