Federazzjoni Kaċċaturi Nassaba Konservazzjonisti (FKNK) said that it has information that no revocation of law will be applied this year and therefore, there will not be a songbird trapping season for 2019.
In a press release, the federation added that this step forms part of the changes that are taking place at EU level which might have negative repercussions for the future of songbird trapping.
The federation stated that it will continue to work with the authorities to overcome the remaining hurdles so that the revocation of law could be applied as usual.
Meanwhile, FKNK also said that during the latest ORNIS meeting, the committee had agreed to recommend the application of a revocation of law for the trapping of the golden plovers and song thrushes.
Amongst others things, FKNK has proposed that the Golden Plover hunted season should be open between the 1st November 2019 and the 10th January 2020.
Every golden plover or song thrush used as bait needs to be wearing a ring.
