President Vella proposed as patron of Commonwealth Small States Centre of Excellence in Malta

President meets secretary-General of Commonwealth - 8-7-19

The Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Baroness Scotland of Asthal, has proposed the President of Malta George Vella as the patron for the Commonwealth Small States Centre of Excellence in Malta during a meeting at Marlborough House in London.

Baroness Scotland of Asthal praised the President of Malta’s commitment within the Commonwealth when he was Malta’s Foreign Minister and said that she has no doubt that he will continue to push important issues that affect Commonwealth countries during his tenure as President of Malta.

From his end, President Vella said that he is honoured that the Secretary-General put this suggestion on the table; however he will only consider this position after having consulted with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat

President Vella and his spouse are currently in London meeting with Maltese patients who are undergoing medical care in the British capital.
