Man who threatened to shoot his brother’s family released from arrest

A man accused of threatening his brother, his brother’s wife and their children and of instigating fear was released from arrest.

The 32 year old man from Qormi pleaded not guilty of writing threatening posts addressed towards his brother and family on Facebook. In the posts, he threatened that he would shoot them, run them over and burn their house.

Although the family reacted by blocking him on Facebook, this led the accused to confront his brother personally on Monday, where he threatened to hurt them. The family then reported him to the police.

The Court, presided by Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech, issued an order of protection in favour of the victims, and said that the accused is not to approach or contact them.  If these terms are not met, he will be charged a €7,000 fine.

The accused was released from arrest with a deposit of €300 and a personal guarantee of €5,000. He is also to check in a police station three times a week.
