A Libyan national named Adnan Saed, has confessed to stealing the sum of €49,000 from the Burgers Ink restaurant in Valletta last Monday.

Witnesses had explained that they had recalled a man grabbing a bag and rushing towards a taxi before leaving the scene. The vehicle is understood to have been found in Gzira, with its driver arrested.

According to the prosecuting police inspector Fabian Fleri explained that 26 year-old Mr Saed, had been cooperative with the police, adding that the sum of €11,100 had already been recovered from him.

Fleri added that the police were still in the process of obtaining the rest of money.

After finding the accused guilty of the theft, Magistrate Gabriella Vella gave Mr Saed a 18 month prison sentence as well as to serve a 6 month prison that had been previously suspended.

Along with Mr Saed, two employees of the restaurant also admitted to conspiring in the robbery. Roxanne Grech from Msida (29) and Ryan Azzopardi from Cospicua (Bormla) (20) were both given two years in prison suspended to four years, due to their cooperation.

They have been ordered not to speak with the robbery victim or to go near the restaurant.

They judgments follow the guilty plea and bail release of the taxi driver, on Wednesday.

Mr Kane Grima (23) was considered an accomplice in the robbery getaway. Mr Grima’s lawyer Giannella De Marco, pled guilt on her defendant’s behalf, while requesting  a bail release and pre-sentencing report.

Both requests were upheld by Magistrate Nadine Lia.

Mr Grima was subsequently given bail on the deposit of €2,000 along with a personal guarantee of €10,000.
