ŻAK House undergoes refurbishment

Front liners hosted in NGO facility during lockdown

A refurbishment project at ŻAK House in Birkirkara is nearing completion. The project ‘Building Bridges’ by Youth section of the Maltese Catholic Action (ŻAK), co-funded under the Voluntary Organizations Project Scheme (VOPS). The project included structural refurbishment which included plastering and painting works of the outdoor areas and shafts, embellishment of the property with indoor and outdoor plants, upgrading of furniture.

An important purchase as part of the project is the AED (Automated External Defibrillator). This equipment may be required to save a person’s life. The training on how to use such equipment is provided as part of the First Aid Course which leaders within the organisation undergo as part of their leadership training.

ŻAK House opened its doors back in December 2013. Since then large numbers of young people participated in several meetings, seminars, live-ins, youth exchanges and trainings organized in the premises.

Contributing in fight against Covid-19

The facilities saw less activities this year due to the pandemic. The NGO offered ŻAK House as free accommodation to frontliners and health care workers for a number of months to eliminate the risk of spreading the virus to their family members.
