Youth who vandalised Christmas tree gets a suspended sentence

A 21-year-old man who resides in Sliema pleaded guilty to vandalising four Christmas trees in St Julian’s while drunk.

The French youth was arraigned in court on Tuesday where he was charged of damaging third party property and of being drunk in public.

The incident happened early on Monday morning on Triq Ġorġ Borġ Olivier. A total of four Christmas trees were vandalised.

Before a court presided over by Magistrate Marseann Farrugia, the youth pleaded guilty to the charges. He paid for the damages and was handed an 18-month jail term sentence suspended for four years.

Police Inspector Joseph Xerri led the prosecution.
