Youth fined €100 after beating up referee at Gozo football match

A 26-year-old youth from iż-Żebbuġ was fined €100 after he pleaded guilty to charges of threatening and slightly injuring a person as well as threatening at attacking another person, breaching the peace and using offensive language.

Antoine Camilleri was arraigned before a court in Gozo presided over by Magistrate Simone Grech.

The incident happened in the dying minutes of the game when Camilleri attacked an assistant referee between Sannat Lions and Oratory Youths, after he was just sent off for a second bookable offence on Saturday. The game was subsequently abandoned.

Camilleri was ordered to pay a fine of €100 and received a one-year ban from the football pitch.
