Youth caught selling drugs in Paceville, remanded in custody

A 21-year-old man from Ħal Qormi was remanded in custody after he as charged with drug trafficking.

The youth was arrested on Saturday in Paceville on suspicion of selling drugs to a 17-year-old. He was also charged with selling drugs within 100 metres of a place frequented by youths and being in possession of cannabis under circumstances denoting that it was not for his own personal use. He pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Police Inspector Joseph Xerri told the court that during a patrol on Dragonara Road they spotted the man handing a container to another person. Following a search on the accused the police found cocaine.

A 17-year-old who was also arrested was found in possession of cocaine, allegedly told the police that he had bought the drug from the accused.

Lawyer Franco Debono appearing for the accused made a request for bail.

Presiding magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit turned down the request as the 17-year-old was still to testify against the accused.

Lawyers Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri and Amadeus Cachia appeared for the accused.
