Women’s Day: Charged with beating up ex-partner

A 30-year old man has been remanded in custody following accusations of beating up and grievously injuring his ex-partner. His case was heard in Court on the occasion of Women’s Day.

The man, who lives in Gżira, faced charges of grievously injuring the woman without intending to kill her, holding her against her will, damaging her mobile phone, stalking, and harassing her. He was further accused of misusing electronic communications equipment, reckless driving, making threats, and committing wrongdoing during the operative period of a suspended sentence. He pleaded not guilty.

The incident allegedly occurred last Saturday, where he waited for his ex outside her home. He then forced her into his car, and assaulted her, injuring her grievously. The victim was hospitalised.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit appointed an expert to examine the victim’s injuries, and denied the request for bail. The alleged aggressor was thus remanded in custody.
