Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation, Silvio Schembri, launched the Women on IT initiative in Malta. Women on IT seeks to address gender equality and female empowerment across the technological sector.
Women on IT is a collaboration between the Malta Business Network and other key stakeholders in the technological field, and will serve as a forum of discussion to identify ways to increase female participation in the sector.
According to Schembri, the lack of female participation in the technological sector is a European wide issue, as the 52% which constitutes the European female population only holds 15% of ICT related jobs. In Malta, female representation in the IT sector stands at 2.7%.
Beata Young, founder of Women on IT expressed her delight of finding such wide support from a large number of stakeholders in Malta who have recognised the need for a better economy and more opportunities for women.
Women on IT seeks to build a strong eco-system of women and men providing inspiration, support and mutual learning whilst fostering a trusting, open and inclusive environment.
