Woman arrested after importing cannabis for trafficking

A 26-year-old woman has been arrested after she was found to have imported drugs which she intended to traffic.

The police said that the German national who resides in Sliema was arrested following investigations carried out by the Drug Squad and the Customs Department.

The Customs Department had informed the Police’s Drug Squad that four glass jars had arrived in Malta containing a substance believed to be cannabis in a parcel addressed to the woman.

The woman was arrested on Tuesday afternoon at her apartment.

Following a raid at her home, the police found six additional jars filled with cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Around €8,000 in cash were also seized.

Duty Magistrate Ian Farrugia is leading the magisterial inquiry.

The woman was taken to the Police lock-up in Floriana and will be arraigned in the coming days.

The police are investigating the case.
