Four sites managed by Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna have been awarded the highest award by the world’s largest travel platform, the government said in a statement on Friday.

The award is given based on reviews of sites visited by tourists during their holiday.

The government explained that in the past years the Tourism Ministry and the Malta Tourism Authority invested in improving the heritage sites managed by the foundation.
Speaking during the visit, the tourism minister noted that the collection of objects and artefacts of wartime Malta, together with notices and newspaper cuttings of the time that shed a light on how the Maltese people lived between 1940 and 1943.
“We have strived to improve our touristic product that ensures a most positive experience to those who visit Malta,” said Minister Farrugia Portelli.
The chairman and chief executive of the foundation, Mark Farrugia, remarked that the achievement is a recognition of Wirt Artna’s efforts to exhibit Maltese history and heritage in the best way possible to all visitors.
The foundation has received other awards from TripAdvisor in the past but it is the first time it was awarded The Travellers’ Choice Certificate.
