Fansided has revealed the person who left the coffee cup which was immortalised in one of the major scenes in Game of Thrones. In the episode “The Last of the Starks,” during the post-battle feast at Winterfell, many thought that Daenerys Targaryan, Mother of Dragons was adding Sipper of Coffee to her interminable list of accolades.
There the coffee cup sat in all its glory as Daenerys, Jon and the rest of the survivors celebrated their victory. This final season, lauded and reviled in equal measure, will go down in history for many things, one of them the arrival of coffee to Westeros.
While many wanted to place the latte firmly in Targaryan hands, the web of mystery spun ever tight. Emilia Clarke aka Daenerys Targaryan, told all while appearing on The Jimmy Kimmel Show:
“We had like a party before the Emmys recently, and Conleth Hill, who plays Varys, who’s sitting next to me in that scene, he pulls me aside and he’s like, ‘Emilia, I’ve got to tell you something. I’ve got to tell you something, love. The coffee cup was mine!’”
Clarke said that Hill apologised…sort of. “He’s like, ‘I think so, I’m sorry, darling, I didn’t want to say anything because it seemed the heat was very much on you.’”
So now we have it, officially: Spiders, in Westeros, like Coffee. Got that GRR Martin?
HBO digitally deleted the coffee cup from subsequent airings of the episode, but no one is likely to forget it.
