Who is most at risk of contracting coronavirus?

Tough precautions in Hong Kong to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

People of all ages can be infected by coronavirus. According to the World Health Organisation, WHO, older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease, appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus. 

WHO is advising people of all ages to take steps to protect themselves from the virus, for example by following good hand hygiene and good respiratory hygiene.

The total number of people affected by coronavirus worldwide has risen to 89,197, according to the map which shows the latest updates on the COVID-19 outbreak.

In Malta, Health Authorities are advising people to avoid nonessential travel to the affected areas. 

The Ministry for Health has instructed people who have fever, cough or shortness of breath within 14 days of visiting the northern part of Italy (Lombardy, Piedmont, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna) China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Iran, South Korea should contact their family doctor and the Health Authorities. They are are also advised to refrain from visiting health centres or the casualty department in the first instance.
