Budget 2019: What do Gozo residents want?

What can the Gozitans expect out of the 2019 Budget? The Association for Gozitan Employees in Malta and the National Youth Council put forward the following proposals:

The Association for Gozitan Employees in Malta

  1. The subsidy offered to Gozitan workers in Malta will increase from €1.12c to €3 so that the subsidy will be part of the transport expenses. This means that the workers’ yearly cohort will increase from €250 to €72 Gozitan employees’ purchasing power will increase by €470
  2. The revision of teleworking and reduced hours
  3. A ‘hub’ should be built in Gozo for Gozitan employees to be able to work from home, and avoiding the commute to Malta every day (especially work from the office)
  4. The revision of the existing PSMC to include the workers’ cohort
  5. The Ċirkewwa road should be widened to two lanes, instead of one to avoid traffic congestion and decrease waiting time
  6. A faster process to buy or rent the fourth ferry
  7. A quicker service of Fast Ferry and Park and Ride Service of Imġarr
  8. The Government should begin to research the possibility of increased leave for Gozitan employees in Malta and Gozo residents by 5% in order to compensate for lost time

The National Youth Council (KNŻ)

  1. Investment in another fibre optic cable not only to link Gozo to Malta but also to Italy
  2. A GU Clinic should be opened in Gozo
  3. A hostel should be opened in Malta for Gozitans studying there
