Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) deputy leader and MP David Agius said that Daphne Caruana Galizia did well in uncovering the corruption and to write “it as it is” during an interview on Follow-Up transmitted on RTK103FM.
Whilst being interviewed by Fr Joe Borg, David Agius said that he and Edwin Vassallo had never maligned each other during their campaign for the deputy leadership of the party. He also said when Daphne Caruana Galiza was assassinated in such a brutal way he used his page on the party’s paper In-Nazzjon to pay tribute to her even though there were times where she wrote ill of him. He never felt that he had to retaliate as he appreciates everyone.
“Let us move forward”
David Agius feels that the PN needs to move forward on the Daphne Caruana Galizia issue. When asked about the attitude that the PN should adopt in relation to Daphne Caruana Galizia, Agius said that there were times when he agreed and others where he did not agree with what the assassinated journalist and blogger wrote, but believes that everyone needs to move forward.
When asked how, can things move forward, the PN deputy leader said for starters the party needs to acknowledge the good work that she did and take no notice of issues that created dissent. He said that the party needs to take the higher road, and believes that her commemorations should continue, PN members should attend and that the organisers should welcome everyone with open arms.
Aguis also believes that the party needs to make a symbolic deed to show positive progress on all the whole issue
“Could you share your ideas on Daphne?”
When Fr Joe Borg asked the PN deputy leader to share his ideas on Daphne, the MP replied that as much as he would like, he prefers to confer with the party first.
