The Finance Minister Edward Scicluna has said that in order to better prosecute and companies and individuals involved in money laundering, Malta needs ‘specialised institutions.’

Minister Scicluna explained that following discussions with a number of ‘international consultants and discussions with UK officials,’ the country would be working to increase its ‘supervisory, regulatory, and enforcement institutions.’

The Minister said that these institutions would have the power and agency to, ‘prosecute persons found in breach of organised economic crime and money laundering activities.’

These statements were delivered during the Minister’s Keynote speech at the 12th Annual FinanceMalta Conference. The theme of his speech was on ‘Combatting Financial Crime’
