‘We have a lot of damage, but the wind is too strong to see the full extent’, the Managing Director the Park Hotel in Sliema told Newsbook.com.mt.
They explained that there had been damage to the roof, and to a number of furnishings around the hotel but with the weather as strong as it is, there was no chance of seeing how much.
The hotel is understood to be fully booked with guests and they were hunkering down and waiting for the storm to pass, the spokesperson explained.
‘It’s a ghost town. There are wires, poles, trees down. Even commuting into work, you had to hold on to the wall and pull yourself through the wind.’
A 5 minute walk up the street is the Diplomat Hotel.
Speaking to the Duty Manager, they explained that they too were fully booked for the marathon.
They explained that they had some issues with the sea view rooms but they have managed to stay up and running. It’s also been easy to get hold of a taxi for guests, they explained.
Newsbook.com.mt has also been trying to find out of if any local restaurants on the coast have decided to stay open.
