The Norwegian frigate KNM Helge Instad is in danger of sinking after being rammed by an oil tanker while returning from the NATO Trident Juncture exercise, according to various media reports.
The warship is currently in danger of sinking, while the Maltese registered tanker, named the Sola TS, is slightly damaged and did not spill oil. Eight sailors on board the ship were injured and were taken to hospital, while 137 sailors were evacuated. The tanker that had set sail from Equinor’s Sture oil terminal with a cargo of North Sea crude, was returned to port for an inspection.
The collision happened on Wednesday morning at 4am local time, while the ship was docked in Sture, north of Bergen on Norway’s west coast.
