Għajnsielem Local Council has inaugurated six cat shelters that will be spread over different sites in this locality.
This project cost €6,287, for which the council has been awarded the sum of €5,000 from the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights’s LC Care Project 2019, which aims to support local councils in caring for animal care in projects that have the potential to improve animal welfare.
This cat café project is aimed is serving as a pilot project which will eventually grow and spread to other locations around Malta and Gozo.
The grant includes money towards cat neutering, as well as the distribution of food to cat feeders.
During the launch, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo referred to the meeting held a few weeks ago, which dealt with funds that the Directorate for Animal Welfare has launched to consider aid and incentives to be given to the local councils that come up with new ideas and positive projects in the interest of animals.
This project aims to assist in the progress of good animal management practices, to strengthen the animal welfare treatment network, the quality of care and the rehabilitation of animal welfare and community services, to provide improved animal facilities and to improve the provision of community education.
