As children around Malta have been self-isolating due to the coronavirus pandemic, San Gorg Preca Primary Hamrun teachers decided to create a short video to express hope and courage.
The video also includes a short message from the Head Erika Spiteri who says that she knew that the students were upset that the school was closed. She and the teachers were sad they they could not meet up as well, she says, so they decided to surprise the children with a fun video.
“I want you to keep on being safe at home, wash your hands very often and the teachers told me to tell you that they are missing you very much. I am missing you too,” she concludes.
The video includes one teacher doing the toilet roll challenge, while another is dressed up as a cat. Another teacher does a quick keep fit exercise routine in her living room, one gets a flurry of kisses from her dog and yet another introduces her pet rabbit and another, her cat. One teacher even impersonates a DJ at a rave. Finally, one obviously tech-savvy teacher manages to recreate a scene where Harry Potter flies (on his roof).
One of the teachers, Samira Mohamed said, “Almost a month ago the government decided to close schools. It wasn’t an easy change for everyone especially for teachers and students. During the past month we kept in contact with our children online. However, this is nothing compared to all the fun activities we used to plan at school. Seeing their smiling faces means everything for us. Therefore as teachers we came together and created some funny videos for our students to give them hope, courage and something to laugh about at this time of worry.”
