Director of the Dar tal-Providenza, Fr Martin Micallef spoke to Newsbook.com.mt on how a number of residents have managed to contribute to society by getting a job. He also explained that donations help people to find the help they need. Tomorrow there will be the Feast of Generosity, a televised charity marathon, for the Dar tal-Providenza.
Fr Martin spoke about how the Dar tal-Providenza offers residential services to people with disabilities so they can have the best quality of life possible. He also explained how the charity is always working on various projects which this year included opening another residence in Balluta, and to arrange another one in the community. This apart from other projects within the Dar tal-Providenza itself to continue to improve residents’ quality of life.
Moreover, this year there were residents who had to opportunity of employment, with Fr Martin said is a right that must be respected. He explained that those who found employment are doing very well, and are contributing to society.
The last few details are being worked on for the Feast of Generosity, where a large tent has been set up at the Dar tal-Providenza in Siġġiewi for tomorrow. There will be a musical show featuring many Maltese singers between 10.00am and midnight. There will also be a number of volunteers receiving donations from the public, as well as answering phones.
This fundraising marathon will be broadcast live on TVM2, ONE TV, and NET TV. A number of artworks by local and foreign artists will also be exhibited and on sale in the hall near the chapel.
The Feast of Generosity shall kick off with a mass in the Dar tal-Providenza chapel by Archbishop Mgr. Charles J. Scicluna at 9am. There will be a second mass at 7pm in the chapel.
A park-and-ride service will be offered leaving from the road of the old San Niklaw runway, but those who cannot be physically present can call in with their donations on the following numbers:
