A mother of two who benefited from the support and services offered by Puttinu Cares, along with her family continue to volunteer during the annual fundraising marathon, fifteen years later.
Marilys Mallia spoke the support she received from the charity to Newsbook.com.mt during the opening of the 60-hour football and volleyball marathon in aid of Puttinu Cares, which is being held this weekend at the Marsa Sports Ground. Kane Debattista and President George Vella opened the marathon together.
At the age of two, one of Marilys’ sons was diagnosed with leukemia. The family found Puttinu’s support during the three years that followed when her son was receiving chemotherapy. Puttinu helped the family a second time, when their second son was sick.
Ritianne Brincat’s daughter was diagnosed with leukemia when she was just a year and three months old. Speaking to Newsbook.com.mt she expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the unwavering support they have received from Puttinu Cares.
Kane’s father, Ryan Debattista likened Puttinu Cares to a family, saying it is almost his first family.
During the opening, President George Vella thanked all those who are contributing to the cause. He added that such initiatives lessen the burden on those who require the charity’s assistance. He highlighted that each donation would go to a family in need.
