“It is more likely for animals to be abandoned in summer,” Heidi Grech from Gozo’s animal welfare said.

Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana announced the third edition of Pet Friendly Holiday on Friday morning. Grech explained that the Animal Welfare Unit within the Ministry of Gozo planned a campaign aimed at raising awareness against the abandoning of animals and maltreatment of animals during the summer. The unit will also inform the public about the various pet-related services offered in Gozo.

Those visiting Gozo with their pets between 12 and 17 August will be given a pet ticket and an information pack. The Ministry for Gozo shall be providing adequate facilities from where pets can drink, both at Ċirkewwa and Mġarr terminals.

Speaking about the various pet-friendly initiatives undertaken by the Ministry, Caruana said that over the past year the Ministry for Gozo has invested money and bought a new animal ambulance, provided a running area in Xewkija, opened a dog park in the family park in Nadur, as well as carried out a cat neutering campaign in Gozo.
