Two men have been arraigned over a fight which reportedly broke out in Marsalforn on 2 August, and which was captured on film.

The footage, sent to by a source who expressed concern about crime in the locality, shows a man being kicked by a small group of men.

The same source also claimed that the attack was ordered by a local, and lamented the ease with which one can pay others to beat up a person. Just €50 would suffice for this purpose, he maintained.

Ultimately, two men were arraigned at the Gozo Court a few days ago, a 24-year-old from Għarb and a 31-year-old Macedonian national. Both have been granted bail.

Councillor laments lack of safety in Marsalforn

Reacting to the footage, local councillor for Żebbuġ (Gozo) – whose territory includes Marsalforn – Daniel Cordina lamented the lack of safety and peace of mind in the seaside locality.

He revealed that the council would be discussing the matter, with the aim of urging the police to up their presence in Marsalforn.

Newsbook had earlier reported the police as stating that no report had been made on the incident, but later clarified that no report had been made in Marsalforn. A report was, however, filed in Victoria, leading to the arraignment of the two men.
