There is no indication that former prime minister Joseph Muscat was presently the subject of police investigations or of legal proceedings, according to his successor Robert Abela.
Abela was asked to comment on his predecessor in the wake of revelations that Muscat had been interrogated under caution, and asked to state whether his position as Labour MP was tenable. He insisted that he would not shy away from taking tough decisions, and that should circumstances change, so would his position.
The PM insisted that the police and other authorities should be left to do their job in peace, without any interference. He also denied that Muscat was ever his consultant, stating that last June, ahead of the government’s ‘mini-budget,’ Muscat had simply given his feedback.
