In a televised video message aired on Partit Nazzjonalista’s TV station, Opposition Leader and party leader Adrian Delia described Prime Minister Joseph Muscat as being an obstruction to the course of justice.
During a Partit Laburista parliamentary group meeting on Sunday, the PL in a statement said that the parliamentary group reaffirmed its full support to the Prime Minister. During the parliamentary group meeting, Muscat reinstated Chris Cardona. The latter had suspended himself. The group also supported all future decisions by Muscat.
Delia observed that the calls for Muscat’s resignation came from various quarters, including civil society, independent media outlets, as well as Partit Nazzjonalista itself. He stated that the civil society is doing its part in the current turmoil, adding that Partit Nazzjonalista will be joining the protest scheduled for Sunday at 4pm. The protest will start from in front of parliament.
Commenting on Cardona’s reinstatement, Delia said that despite accusations of frame up, the Prime Minister felt comfortable taking such actions. He stated that Muscat chose himself over national interest and asked for the protection of the parliamentary group. Delia stressed that the Prime Minister should not have any role in the ongoing investigation in relation to the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
‘Muscat is desperately clinging to his seat,’ Delia stated.
Adding that justice cannot be done and seen to be done, if the current situation persists. Further saying that Muscat should have resigned immediately, noting that his position as prime minister is no longer tenable and that he is losing his credibility.
“Our country is being held hostage,” Delia stated, as he once again called for Muscat’s resignation.
