Watch: “Mahler’s hammer is what I like most about this symphony!”

In view of recent government announcements regarding indoor mass events, Mahler's Sixth has been cancelled.

During this episode of‘s online cultural programme ‘Take A Bow‘, Coryse Borg interviews the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra ‘s Jean Noël Attard who speaks about Mahler’s Sixth.

Sometimes nicknamed ‘Tragic’, the symphony has been described as ‘the first nihilist work in the history of music’. It also features a massive hammer which has been built purposely by Jesmond Azzopardi for this performance and which will be used by percussionist Daniel Cauchi.

Mahler’s Sixth will be performed by the MPO, in collaboration with the Mediterranean Conference Centre and the Valletta Cultural Agency, on Saturday 14th March 2020 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.
