Watch: “LSEs might do their job but there is need for a revamp in the system”

Tista' taqra bil- Malti.

Michelle De Maria’s son was born with Down Syndrome. He is eight years old, attends school with his peers and is assisted by an LSE. However, he does not attend Mathematics lessons in class.

De Maria said she is sad that he son does his Maths lessons away from the class, as both she and her husband Jeremy believe in inclusive education.

She said, however, that Sam has fallen so behind in his Maths education that it was impossible for him to follow what was going on during class lessons. She elaborated that there would be situations where well-meaning LSEs do not have the necessary experience and education to cater for the child’s needs.
