EnKor is a local choir with gospel roots founded in 2002 with members of different ages but who all share the same passion for music.
Of course, choir members are not meeting up for rehearsals right now, so a solution was found to get them to meet up virtually. So, the idea of recording a song as a tribute to Bill Withers (who passed away in March 2020) ‘Lean on Me’ was born.
“We also wanted to keep the choir active and busy during this trying situation since we are not meeting and it is hard to keep rehearsals going… although we are holding rehearsals online and still meeting weekly,” choir director Sarah Salafia told Newsbook.com.mt.
Salafia continued by saying that the aim of the song was to thank and encourage all those people who are providing an essential and ongoing service to the community, whether they are front-liners or not. The message is to remind them that they will always have a shoulder to lean on, she said.
“The people in the video are the current choir members and band members, as well as collaborators – people who left the choir but still contribute, especially with writing arrangements,” Salafia explained, “If you love singing, why not join EnKor when the pandemic is over?”
