Tista' taqra bil- Malti.
There is a large number of rats running around in Frank Debono Street, Marsalforn, eating away the waste they find thrown away and not collected. Despite a year of complaints, the problem seems to persist.
Nathaniel Attard told Newsbook.com.mt that he has been complaining about the problem for a year. However, he says that his words fell on deaf ears.
Attard said that the contractor who collects waste from Marsalforn often skips Frank Debono Street, with the consequence that the discarded waste continues to accumulate. Attard also explained that the situation is worsened by some irresponsible residents who dispose of waste at any time of the day. To avoid being part of the problem, Attard sometimes transports his rubbish to another location using his own car.
Attard added that another factor which continues to add on to this problem is that a nearby field in the middle of the area is used as a landfill by people disposing of their waste. He said that despite complaints being made about building a wall in front of the field to close access to it, to this day this wall does not yet exist. A photo taken by Google Maps in 2016 shows the same field without a wall – proving that this problem has persisted for years.
Ignored, Attard posted videos on Facebook showing the situation he is facing.
“It is my duty to take action” – Councillor Cordina
Among the comments on the Facebook post was that of Żebbuġ Councillor Daniel Cordina. Marsalforn is administered by this Council.
Cordina said he spoke with his colleagues within the local council to see why the contractor is not following the planned daily route on this road. He also called for the cooperation of all to maintain cleanliness.
The councillor told Newsbook.com.mt that it was his duty to take action. He also said that he will be filing a complaint on behalf of the resident. He called Attard and talked about the situation.
