“Journalists have a duty to report faithfully, as well as investigate,” Labour MEP Joisanne Cutajar said during an interview with Newsbook.com.mt in Strasbourg.
Recently Cutajar penned an article in which she spoke about ‘fake news’. The newly-elected MEP then took aim at ‘certain newsrooms which have a hidden agenda against the government’.
Asked about what she thinks journalists should do, Cutajar said she believes that it is important for journalists to focus on current affairs. While acknowledging that investigative journalism is an important aspect, she stressed that it is important to provide a factual account on current affairs.
“As I see it, there is a duty to protect journalists so that they can carry out their investigative work and their reporting,” Cutajar added.
