Watch: “In severe cases, patients suffer from spontaneous bleeds”

In a two-part series, speaks to Dr James Gauci from the Malta Bleeding Disorders Society.

The 26th June 2019 was a special day of hope for people in Malta who suffer from conditions related to bleeding disorders as this day marked the launch of the newly set-up Malta Bleeding Disorders Society (MBDS).

Bleeding disorders are rare medical conditions and the society addresses the need to raise awareness and impart information among the Maltese community to ensure a better quality of life to patients suffering from these conditions and to eradicate prejudices and/or mistaken myths about patients.

Dr Gauci explained that the aims of the MBDS are multiple and range from the direct assistance of patients and relatives, to the mobilisation of policy makers in Malta and beyond in order to give better attention and services to the medical and social needs of these patients.

More information may be obtained by sending an email to or checking the society’s Facebook page or Twitter.

Part 2 will be online on on Friday 11th October.
