Opposition MP Karol Aquilina said that he has a good relationship with Opposition leader and Partit Nazzjonalista leader Adrian Delia, and that there is an agreement for Aquilina to speak his mind, regardless of whether he is in agreement or not with the leader.
Aquilina was replying to questions from the media, following a long parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday evening. Earlier, the PN MP stated that former media chief Pierre Portelli was lying when he leveled allegations against the MP claiming that Aquilina had tried to pass a fabricated story about him to the Maltese press.
The Opposition MP said that the Nationalist leader appreciates his honesty.
Commenting about the parliamentary group meeting, Aquilina said that it was an open discussion.
When asked if Delia enjoys his trust, Aquilina flatly replied that its not his trust he needs to enjoy, but that of the electorate, adding that the results the party gained in the recently held elections speak for themselves, when asked if the Nationalist leader enjoys the trust of the electorate. Asked whether Delia should resign or not, Aquilina said that the decision is for him to take, and it seems that he already made up his mind in this regard.
Sources that spoke to Newsbook.com.mt said that the majority of MPs asked the Nationalist leader to ask for a vote of confidence at the party’s General Council. On several occasions, Delia said that he will not resign, and that paid-up party members had entrusted him with a full term until the elections. According to Delia, no calls were made for him to resign.
