A fire has broken out at the warehouses owned by Attrans Ltd. Qormi, on Saturday afternoon. The police have temporarily closed the road from Ħaż-Żebbuġ to Qormi, as firefighters continue to try and bring the fire under control.
The incident happened at around 2.15pm, with a police spokesperson confirming that there was a fire on Mdina Road at Attrans’ storage facility. Boats, cars and tyres are usually kept on site.
So far, no injuries have been reported.
It is not yet known whether it was a grass fire or otherwise. However, people who happened to pass from the road when the fire broke out, heard an explosion.
Thick plumes of smoke could be seen from various localities around Malta.
Firefighters and fire engines have been dispatched on site. The police are also on site.
The fire was only brought under control almost two hours later.
Newsbook.com.mt is informed that citizens went on site transporting water which was used to put out the fire.

More than 250,000 litres of water used
In a Facebook post, the Civil Protection Department said that it was informed that a large fire had engulfed part of a trailer yard and an adjacent workshop in Mdina Road.
Several firefighting units from Kordin, Pembroke, Halfar, Xemxija and Dingli were immediately dispatched on site. The firefighting operation lasted several hours and involved 5 officers and over 30 firefighters. In total more than 250,000 litres of water and 3,000 litres of foam were used, CPD explained.
The operation also involved the Department’s three water carriers which together with the efforts of the firefighters stopped the fire from spreading further.
