Watch: Fearne does not reveal contract negotiations with Steward

Minister for Health Chris Fearne has not given a clear answer regarding the negotiations of the contract amendments between the Government and Steward Health Care.

When asked by journalists about the agreement negotiations, Fearne said that discussions have begun regarding the possibility of Steward Health Care Services of America being adopted by the Gozo General Hospital. He said that the services were not included in the concession agreement. He added that Steward came to Malta on an agreement with Vitals Global Healthcare (VGH). Fearne did not exclude the fact that there could be amendments in the agreement which do not have to do with additional services.

Newsbook.com.mt sent an email to Fearne, asking him about when discussion of changes in the agreement commenced, which parts of it will be amended and whether the whole contract shall be published.

Fearne responded by saying that there have been various meeting throughout the week about Steward Healthcare’s potential to contribute further to Malta’s health sector through the partnership agreement.

Today Minister Chris Fearne said that there will be an increase in nurses and midwives’ wages. He said this during a news conference after signing the sectorial contract with the Malta Union For Midwives and Nurses (MUMN).

Minister for Health denied categorically that Steward Healthcare are leaving the Gozo General Hospital’s operations.

Fearne was asked about the developments linked to the 17 Black company, Chief of Staff Keith Schembri and Minister for Tourism Konrad Mizzi. Fearne said that there was criticism on institutions in the past which were not correct and this worries him. He added that the criticism was not justified.

Fearne claimed that there was strong pressure for the institutions to carry out their work and added that this pressure was unnecessary since the work was going to happen anyway. He said that one must wait on the outcome.
