Non-governmental organisation Europa Donna Malta is offering support to cancer patients through a support group.
Speaking to Newsbook.com.mt, President Gertrude Abela said that their offices are in Floriana. In the support groups, cancer patients provide each other with various types of help. She explained that together they share coping strategies. The organisation sometimes helps out financially by footing the bills of patients who seek psychological assistance.
October is dedicated to breast cancer with various awareness-raising activities organised. Europa Donna Malta provides information to patients through leaflets and booklets, as well as a CD which includes tips and exercises after breast cancer surgery.
Europa Donna Malta organizes several activities such as fashion shows supporting survivors and their relatives. During the last fashion show, five girls under the age of 15, were among those who walked the catwalk, Abela explained. Through such fundraising activities, the organisation can raise funds to continue its valuable work.
During Pink October, Europa Donna Malta continues to organise various events and fundraising activities. Some of the money raised goes to cancer research.
‘We understand the ordeal they have been through’
Vice-President Rowena Enriquez said that health professionals assist patients from a medical perspective, the organisation provides support through other means. She highlighted that they have been through the same ordeal and by coming together they share coping mechanisms and feel more empowered during such a difficult time.
