Opposition leader and Partit Nazzjonalista leader Adrian Delia has challenged Partit Laburista’s parliamentary group to fire Attorney General Peter Grech. In a televised message, Delia challenged in particular leadership hopefuls Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne and MP Robert Abela to remove Grech, if he failed to resign from his post.
The video message was aired on Partit Nazzjonalista’s media outlets and on Facebook. On Tuesday, the PN published the Egrant inquiry report after Delia obtained a copy following a battle in court. The court found that the AG breached the Opposition Leader’s rights when denying him of a copy.
Last year, the AG published the main conclusions of the report which amounted to 3% of the lengthy inquiry report prepared by then Magistrate Aaron Bugeja. Despite publication promises, it was only published on Tuesday by the Nationalist Party media.
More than 90,000 users accessed the report online after it was published, Delia said. He added that the media was now looking at different aspects of the report, and publishing parts of this report. ‘After 18 months, the people have a concrete report on corruption,’ Delia explained, noting that the Prime Minister, the Attorney General and others who had the report knew about this very well.
Speaking about the Attorney General, Delia said that he could not understand why Grech did not step down after the court found that he had breached the rights of the Opposition leader. Delia claimed that the AG was an accomplice with the other individuals involved.
Delia also referred to the vote taken in the European Parliament on Wednesday, which calls for Muscat’s immediate resignation.
