If you’re out and about and you do a double-take when you see what looks like a London cab, fear not – you haven’t been transported outside our shores with a Star Trek-type device.
This iconic black London cab is Ryde’s fully electric ‘hero car’, which is revolutionising the way we view sustainable mobility here in Malta.
Ryde was built around the philosophy that humans and the environment surrounding them should come first. Their mantra is: “if the drivers are happy, then the Ryders are happy.”
This is something that I can fully confirm. I recently tried out the latest ride-hailing service to hit Malta’s shores and our driver, Vince, was absolutely lovely, with just the right amount of friendliness which came through even though he was behind a Perspex shield (which made me and my son who was travelling with me, feel very safe). In the inside of the vehicle there were also two signs reminding passengers to wear a mask.
The electric car seats six, so we were very spoiled as far as legroom and space goes! In fact my son could stand up without his head touching the sky-roof (when we were stationery of course). But even with full capacity, there’s plenty of room for even the tallest among us to be really comfortable.
And talking about comfort, the seats were lush and car itself purrs along so smoothly, that if you close your eyes, you can actually pretend you are in London (unless there is a particularly deep pothole of course)!
Ryde also offers ramp access for wheelchairs, prams and pushchairs and ample luggage capacity. The total Ryde fleet includes many other normal passenger vehicles as well as a fleet of minivans.
The Ryde Malta app, which is available for download on the Apple Store and Google Play, allows for both on-demand and pre-booking services.
