PN MEP David Casa has been chosen as the spokesperson for the European People’s Party parliamentary group as its spokesperson for anti-money laundering legislation within the parliamentary committee for economic and monetary affairs.
“When institutions fail to investigate, it is journalists like Daphne Caruana Galizia and Jan Kuciak who pay ultimate price. Things must change,” Casa said on Twitter.
In his new role, Casa will monitor the implementation of the 5th anti-money laundering directive and will lead the debate on behalf of the EPP Group on any revisions of the current legislation.
Casa was appointed during the plenary session held at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. During his address to the plenary, Casa said that had the institutions been more effective in combating money laundering, journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia might not have been killed. Caruana Galizia was assassinated in a car bomb on October 16, 2017.
