Tista' taqra bil- Malti.

The Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) has urged the government to immediately close the trapping season for Golden Plovers citing massive abuse was witnessed in the last nights.

In a statement, CABS explained that the infringements include the extensive use of bird callers, night trapping outside the permitted hours, contravening the quota (reporting requirement) for trapped birds, as well as the illegal sale of wild caught Golden Plovers on a popular website.

More than dozens of reports from the public were filed with CABS over the last weeks. People complained about the loud bird callers used for illegal hunting and trapping. The Committee’s team mapped 35 locations were such bird callers were being used.

The highest density of active sites were located around Siggiewi, Delimara, St Thomas Bay, Mgarr, Bahrija, Qrendi, Rabat, Fiddien, Burmarrad, Maghtab, Safi, Zurrieq and on Gozo San Lawrenz and the Ta’ Cenc plateau.

The Committee published footage which shows several individuals trapping birds at dawn.
