Gozo Bishop Anton Teuma drew comparisons between hospital work and the Calvary during a visit to Mater Dei Hospital made on the invitation of Health Minister Chris Fearne.
The Bishop made the comparison as he celebrated mass as the Hospital Chapel, with hospital chaplains Fr Bertrand Vella and Fr Mario Attard as concelebrants. He recalled that through his sacrifice on the Calvary, Jesus gave his love to others, and said that the same was done by hospital staff when they assisted the sick. Their love, he said, translated into dedication, patience, attention and cure.
Bishop Teuma met a number of hospital staff at the end of the mass, including Gozitans working at Mater Dei.
Accompanied by Fearne, he then went on to visit a number of wards, where he met staff and patients alike.
