English actor and film director Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, will be reading The Hobbit from start to finish with no breaks, in aid of charity.
The continuous, live reading of the J.R. Tolkien book is estimated to take around 12 hours.
Serkis said: “While times are tough, I want to take you on one of the greatest fantasy adventures ever written, a 12-hour armchair marathon across Middle-earth, while raising money for two amazing charities which are doing extraordinary work right now to help those most in need.”
The reading will kick of on Friday 8th May at 11.00 am CET.
The money raised from the reading will be split between NHS Charities Together and Best Beginnings. Donations may be made here. At the time of writing, Serkis had raised £17,712 of his £100,000 goal.
