Just ahead of Valentine’s Day, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra shall be performing Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4 for the very first time in Malta on Saturday 26th January at 5.00pm.
During the first episode of Newsbook.com.mt‘s brand new online cultural programme ‘Take a Bow‘, presented by Coryse Borg, Maria Blanco from the MPO explains that the concert will be under the direction of Dutch-Maltese conductor Lawrence Renes, with the participation also on soprano Emma Bell who will be singing Wagner’s ‘Wesendonck Lieder’.
Maria explains how listening to Wagner’s music inspired Bruckner, then a church musician in a provincial monastery, to start writing symphonies. In fact, although Wagner himself only completed one symphony in his lifetime, Bruckner’s fame largely rests on his symphonies.
Tickets for the concert, which will take place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, can be purchased online or from the MCC’s box office.
