Visiting hours at Mount Carmel Hospital suspended

The decision comes after seven patients tested positive for coronavirus

Mount Carmel Hospital has suspended its visiting hours with immediate effect, the government announced in a statement on Wednesday after a total of seven patients have tested positive for coronavirus.

The statement released by the Office of the Deputy Prime Ministry and the Health Ministry notified the public that the administration was taking all the necessary precautionary measures to safeguard the patients receiving treatment at Mount Carmel.

The seven patients are being kept in isolation at the same hospital while the rest of the patients who were in San Ġorġ Preca ward were placed under quarantine.

The staff assigned to the ward were also placed under mandatory quarantine.

Six out of the 49 new coronavirus cases were registered overnight on Wednesday were linked to Mount Carmel Hospital cluster.

The total number of active cases is at 486 according to the latest government figures.
