Tista' taqra bil- Malti.
Another development, a block of apartments is being proposed next door to Villa Frere in Pietà. In January the Planning Authority, PA, had refused the application of a 10- storey hotel proposed next to the Villa in Pietà but now it is again facing another proposed development application.
Villa Frere was a property of John Hookham Frere who was a friend of Mikiel Anton Vassalli also known as ‘the father of the Maltese language’, who used to visit Villa Frere. In 2019 Heritage Malta acquired part of Villa Frere which saw the status of the Villa turned into a National Heritage Monument.
Also, one of the houses next to the Villa is scheduled as a Grade 2 building, while one of the other houses leads onto Giardino Zammitello which is a large historical garden.
The NGO Friends of Villa Frere shared on Facebook images of the proposed development.
The deadline for objections for this proposed application is the 25th of January 2021.
