US President Donald Trump became the first president the history of the United States to be impeached twice. The impeachment happened as 10 Republicans joined Democrats in the House of Representatives to charge him with the incitement of last week’s mob assualt in the Capitol.

The vote passed by 232 votes in favour and 197 against.  Calls for a quick impeachment trial by the Senate was rejected by the Republica majority leader Mitch McConnell, who said it was difficult to conlude the trial before Trump leaves office next week.

Democratic President-elect Joe Biden is set to be inaugurated on Jan. 20.

An eventual Senate conviction of Trump could lead to a vote on banning him from running for office again.
