UPE reports of a further 4 schools with COVID-19 cases

The Union for Professional Educators (UPE – Voice of the Workers) announced that there are several alleged cases of educators who tested positive for coronavirus today. These allegations are from schools in Dingli, Birkirkara, Blata l-Bajda and Qormi.

Details of cases according to UPE:

  • One case at a secondary school in Dingli, which forms part of St. Nicholas College.
  • An educator from one of the staff rooms of the secondary school in Qormi which is part of St. Ignatius College.
  • Two cases from the Middle School of Blata l-Bajda which is part of St. George Preca College.
  • Another case was found at Birkirkara Middle School which is part of St. Theresa’s College. The educator appears to be working in two schools, however, the name of the second school is unconfirmed.

Through a post on Facebook, the union said that there are too many people who ended up infected in a short time due to the opening of schools. The union wished the educators a speedy recovery.

On Sunday, the same union announced various reports of positive coronavirus cases amongst staff members in different schools, including Maria Regina College Mosta in Żokrija and St. George Preca College Ħamrun Secondary.

On Monday, the health authorities reported that from the 66 coronavirus cases seven were traced back to educators and a student.
